why-use-granite-for-memorials-photo.2.jpgMan’s monument building efforts have always been limited by three factors: the materials available to him, the tools at his command and most important, his knowledge and skill at using both. The special value that an artist/craftsman with high ideals, quality materials and proper tools brings to his work is the union of these elements.

Most monuments of antiquity that still endure were built with stone. And, granite in particular has the ability to withstand temperature extremes, modern hydrocarbon and acid rain pollution. It is also unique because it is very heavy and has no salvage value so granite memorials are rarely stolen for profit. Granite requires minimum maintenance, resists most vandalism and doesn’t add to long-term cemetery maintenance costs.

Today we have taken the manufacturing of memorialization to its highest level yet. Our granites come from all over the world. We have access to the most durable, the finest quality and the widest range of color choices with the best polishes and finishes ever. Yet surprisingly, most costs have changed little from the 1940’s due to advances in machinery, production tools and techniques in the manufacturing process.

Granite offers an unlimited array of choices in colors and shapes. It can be finished in a multitude of ways and any special designs and carvings are inexpensive enough that they can be the rule rather than the exception.

Lettering on lawn level memorials is mostly incised and other types of carvings are not normally raised a significant distance above the surface of the stone to reduce the risk of damage from lawn mowers and other maintenance equipment.

Most of the tools we use today are made from diamonds and carbide. Even the sandblast medium used is comprised of Zirconium Oxide, which is close to diamonds in its hardness and unequalled in its ability to carve minute details. We now have proven new-age technology in photo reproduction, in installation bonding materials, in cleaners and sealers, and in many other parts of our memorial production process.

Even though memorials have changed little in their purpose over the years, we now produce a product that has evolved into nearly perfect durability with exceedingly high quality artistic representation and at an affordable cost.
