Civic & Military - WC&M 032
0.00ITEM #: WC&M 032On September 24th 2015 two buses collided head to head on the Aurora bridge in Seattle, WA, killing five students on their way to the North Seattle Community College for orientation. The students were part of an international exchange program hailed from Austria, Indonesia, China, Japan and South Korea. Once the initial shock had passed it was time to start the healing, so plans for a memorial at the school began. In order to turn this tragedy into a uniting experience the project was christened "The World Community Garden". The feature consists of 5 curved benches surrounding a 24'' granite globe atop a 5 spired pedestal and 36'' daises. The 5 spires supporting the globe as well as the benches are representative of each student lost and their respective country and feature a design made of 5 bands reflective of a prominent geographical landmark from each country. Each of the bands on the benches were then reproduced and connected to flow around the base of the globe as well. The project was dedicated on the first day of the new school year almost one year later.
